Description

These are a group of six buildings, numbers 4 to 16 Abercrombie Street, dating from the earlier 19th century. They form part of a terraced block situated at the corner of Abercrombie Street and Newbold Road. The buildings are constructed of coursed stone, featuring wide eaves and a hipped slate roof. Each property has two storeys and originally contained one window, which are generally sash windows with glazing bars. The windows have engraved lintels incorporating keystones, which are now painted. Numbers 8 and 14 have been fitted with modern glazing within the original sash window frames. Number 16 is at a slightly lower level and has a later 19th-century bay window on the ground floor, with modern glazing replacing the original door. The remaining properties have original doors with small rectangular fanlights above, with number 4 retaining its original six-panelled door.
