Description
The Former Chesterfield Union Workhouse, now known as Scarsdale Hospital, was built in 1840. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features stone bands between the first and second, and second and third floors. The building has a slate roof and a central white cupola adorned with four round arches and a modillion cornice. It stands four storeys tall, with one window in the center on each floor, flanked by full-height brick bays that each contain three windows. Most windows are sashes with glazing bars, except for those on the ground floor, which are unbarred. The bays are topped with pediments featuring stone cornices, and the sides of the block are also pedimented. A central rusticated stone arch adds to the architectural detail.
