Description

The Neptune is a pair of houses that were originally a public house, located next to the canal at the former Hebble End Basin in Hebden Bridge. They date from the early 19th century and are constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high and feature quoins. Each house has a doorway with monolithic jambs and a lintel that includes a cornice. There is a blocked taking-in door over the right-hand door. On either side of the doorways, there are tall two-light sashed windows, with similar windows above. The left-hand return wall has two bays of two-light windows, with matching windows in the attic. The right-hand return wall faces the canal and has a central semi-circular arched taking-in bay that has been altered to create a doorway and window, with a two-light window above at the apex.
