Description
Rochdale Canal Lock Number 9 and the attached footbridge were built in 1798, designed by engineers W. Jessop and W. Crossley. The lock features large dressed stone retaining walls that include rebates for gates and is equipped for a double set of bottom gates. The footbridge has a single segmental arch and is adorned with a band and dressed stone parapet.
