Description

This milestone, located 200 meters to the northeast of Oxygrains Bridge, dates from the mid-19th century. It features an arched stone structure that is overlaid with cast iron and has two projecting faces. The top of the milestone is inscribed with "OLDHAM & RIPPONDEN ROAD RISHWORTH." The left face displays the distance to Oldham and Ripponden, while the right face indicates the distances to Manchester and Halifax, reading "OLDHAM 9 MILES 4 MILES" and "RIPPONDEN 9 1/2 MILES 16 MILES," respectively.
