Description

This milestone, located opposite Don Marie Booth Wood on Oldham Road in Rishworth, dates from the mid-19th century. It features an arched stone base that is overlaid with cast iron and has two projecting faces. The top of the milestone reads: "OLDHAM & RIPPONDEN ROAD RISHWORTH." The left face indicates distances to Oldham and Manchester, stating "OLDHAM 11 MILES" and "MANCHESTER 18 MILES," while the right face shows "RIPPONDEN 2 MILES" and "HALIFAX 7 1/2 MILES." The milestone also bears the maker's name, "BRAYSHAW & BOOTH, MAKERS LIVERSEDGE."
