Description

Rishworth New Mill, occupied by Croslee Yarns Limited, is a mill built in the mid-19th century. It features hammer dressed stone with ashlar dressings and hipped slate roofs. The building has four storeys and a 19-bay facade, which is enhanced by quoins and slightly recessed bays arranged in a pattern of 3 + 3 + 7 + 3 + 3. Each window is topped with a monolithic lintel and has a projecting sill.

In the fifth bay, there is a large doorway with a semi-circular arch that has an expressed keystone and rusticated voussoirs with a vermiculated surface. The facade is topped with a large cyma moulded cornice. Above the fifth bay, a square clock tower features corner pilasters and consoles that support a wide projecting cornice, along with circular recesses intended for a clock face, which is currently missing. The building also has moulded gutter brackets. The 14th bay includes a taking-in door to the top floor, and there is an 8-bay return. The left-hand return wall has semi-circular arched doorways leading to the taking-in bay, which also features rusticated voussoirs.
