Description
Nutclough Mill is a mill dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a slate roof. The building is five storeys high, double-pile, and features a two-span roof with a north tower that rises three storeys higher. A projecting band runs between each floor and continues around the tower. The east side has twenty bays of windows, each with plain stone surrounds and projecting sills, except for the top storey, where the windows lack surrounds, suggesting a possible later addition. A four-bay return is also present. The tower has six stages; the fifth stage contains two floors of three-light semi-circular windows with keystones and a linking impost band. The outer windows of the tower are solid. Above this is a cornice carried on consoles. A plain water tower with a hipped roof is also part of the complex. The rear of the mill has twenty-four bays of similar windows. The mill is a prominent feature in the landscape. Internally, the building is supported by iron pillars, and one floor has brick vaulting. It was used by the Hebden Bridge Fustian Manufacturing Co-operative Society from 1870 onwards.
