Description
Stubbings Infant School is a school built in 1878, constructed from pitched faced stone with a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a U-shaped layout, featuring a central hall that consists of five bays, with projecting wings on either side. The left wing extends further than the right. The front of the school has an arcade of five tall pointed arches, with mullioned windows above that have segmental heads, featuring two and three lights on the first floor. The central bay is topped with a small gable that includes three-light lancet windows and a quatrefoil at the apex. The wings also have similar gables and arrow slit openings at their apexes, along with coped gables that have finials.
Inside, the hall boasts a hammer beam roof. The school holds significant value within the townscape. It is illustrated in C. Spencer's Hebden Bridge History Trail.
