Description
St. George's Bridge is a Grade II listed bridge, built in 1892. It is made of cast iron and was produced by De Bergue & Co. Ltd. in Manchester. The bridge features two spans and is slightly skewed. It has triangular dressed stone breakwaters that rise into elaborately decorated piers, which include sunken panels and a bracketed cap. The east pier is inscribed with "J. Sutcliffe Architect. 1892," while the west pier is inscribed with "E. Riley Contractor." Each side of the bridge has 18 cast panels, each featuring a quatrefoil set within a circle. One of the cast iron panels states: "St. George's Bridge Erected by Public Subscriptions with the Aid of a Grant from the West Riding County Council Committee John Crowther George Pickles ABM Moss Joseph Greenwood J. B. Brown Sec."
