Description
Burlees House is a former mill built in the mid to late 19th century. The main structure features a combination of cast iron and glass, designed as a double pile under a two-span roof. It stands three storeys tall and consists of nine bays supported by upright iron posts, which create a wall of large glazed panels that have a segmental head at the eaves. The facade facing the road has been altered at the ground floor, now featuring hammer-dressed stone that forms an office block with seven bays of windows and sill bands. The roof is hipped and covered with slate. This building is notable as an early example of metal framing and is the only one of its type in the district.
