Description

Higher Wormald is a laithe-house dated 1796, built incorporating a single-cell of a late 17th-century house to the south front. It is constructed of thin-coursed hammer-dressed stone with ashlar quoins, and has a stone slate roof. The two-cell cottage section features a four-light, thin, flat-faced mullioned window above a similar window to the first floor; a doorway with monolithic jambs and an overlapping lintel; a five-light window; and a doorway with monolithic jambs to the left of a segmental arched cart entry above which is a tablet engraved "WJ/1796". A mistal doorway is located to the right. Two rectangular ventilators are also present.

The rear elevation shows remnants of an earlier building from the late 17th century, with larger dressed stone above the ground floor windows. There is a two-light chamfered mullioned fire-window to the left of a five-light chamfered mullioned window. The first floor has a seven-light, thin, flat-faced mullioned window. The added laithe-house section includes a six-light, similar mullioned window. Fragments of a ridge stack remain.
