Description

A pair of houses, likely dating to the mid-18th century, are situated on the east side of Northgate in Heptonstall. The front elevation is finely dressed stone, with a rubble rear section built over an earlier structure. The two-storey front has quoins and three bays of flat-faced mullioned windows, most with three lights and a two-light window above, one bay featuring a five-light window over a three-light window. Some original mullions have been removed from the windows. The elevation overlooks Heptonstall Methodist Church and occupies a prominent location. The rear of the properties contains doorways with tie-stone jambs to each house; a central doorway is blocked. Two stacks are visible along the ridge.
