Description

Whitehall Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with the upper storeys rebuilt in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of large dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The house has a three-room plan and a double-depth layout, with three gables. The ground floor has double-chamfered mullioned windows, including a five-light window, a six-light window with a king mullion, and a four-light window. A doorway has been inserted between the first two bays. The first floor features tall three-light windows with chamfered mullions. The gables are coped and have carved shields at their apex. The left-hand return wall has a six-light chamfered mullioned window, missing four mullions, and the rear has a three-light chamfered mullioned window with arched lights, sunken spandrels, and cavetto mullions. There are two doorways with ogee lintels, dating from the 19th century, and an original doorway with a chamfered surround. A two-light window is present at mezzanine level, along with a three-light and a five-light window to the first floor. The right-hand return wall has a three-light chamfered mullioned window, lacking mullions, and a single two-light window to the first floor. The roof has two stacks and wide, original coped gables with kneelers. A plaque records the occupation of the Bentley family.
