Description

Nos. 5 and 7 Mankinholes are a pair of cottages from the mid-18th century, now used as a single residence. They are constructed from hammer-dressed stone and feature a stone slate roof. The cottages are two storeys high and have a T-shaped layout. The south front consists of two cells, with quoins, gables that have kneelers, and chimney stacks. The windows are flat-faced mullioned types, with the mullions slightly recessed. Most of the windows have been altered to create larger openings, but originally, the first cell had five lights with a similar arrangement above, while the second cell had four lights with the same above. An early 20th-century porch is situated between the two cells. The original door entry is located at the right-hand end and features a quoined lintel. The left-hand return wall still has a two-light window on the first floor and a blocked three-light window in the attic. At the rear, there is an attached gabled wing with quoins and two-light windows on both floors, although the mullion is missing. There is also a lean-to porch with coping and a kneeler, which has been blocked to a window, and a gable stack. The cottages are listed for their group value.
