Description

Cuckoo's Nest Farmhouse and the attached barn is a 18th-century laithe-house, dated 1758 and initialled "TC". The building features rubble brought to course, rough dressed quoins, and a stone slate roof. The barn occupies three-quarters of the structure and includes a 2½ storey single-cell double-depth cottage with an additional cell added under a lower roof in the late 19th century.

The barn to the left has a segmental-arched cart entry formed by two large cantilevered stones that are butt-jointed, leading into a portal with a tall square-headed entry. To the left of the barn, there is a mistal doorway with a deep lintel and composite jambs, all surrounded by a chamfered finish. The cottage is slightly set back and features a doorway with tie-stone jambs and a chamfered surround that rises to form a false ogee lintel bearing the date. The cottage also has large single lights with plain stone surrounds and overlapping lintels. The left side of the barn has two square pitching-holes with plain stone surrounds, and at the rear, the barn has a doorway opposite the cart entry, while the cottage has a small stair-light.

Inside, the barn features a king-post truss that is braced to the ridge.
