Description

Ye Olde Stone House, located 30 metres to the northwest of Hardwick Cottage, is a house from the 17th century that is now used as a cow-house. It features large rough-dressed stone and a stone slate roof, and it stands two storeys high with two cells. The building has quoins and a doorway with composite jambs and a deep lintel, which is surrounded by a stop-chamfered detail. Throughout the structure, there are double-chamfered mullioned windows. The four-light window on the left is missing one mullion, while the other windows lack all mullions. There is an altered window on the right side, and the first floor has two windows that were originally three lights. The right-hand gable has been partly rebuilt, but the coursing of the stones may suggest the presence of a cruck truss, although there is no other evidence of this. Inside, there is a king-post truss without struts and chamfered purlins.
