Description
Higher Eastwood is a house, originally built in 1630, that has been divided into cottages and is currently occupied by two households. It features finely dressed stone and a stone slate roof, standing two storeys high with a four-room front. The building has a weathered plinth and a continuous drip course above the ground floor windows, which rises over the door and has straight returns.
There is a four-light chamfered mullioned window, with a similar window above it. An inserted 19th-century doorway is located next to the original entry, which has tie-stones, a straight lintel, and a stop-chamfered surround. The passage plan runs through the building. Above the door, there is an inscribed tablet that bears the date and the name 'JOHN:EASTWOOD: I C'.
Inside, one room features reeded spine beams. There are two 19th-century doorways with monolithic jambs. The building also includes a double chamfered mullioned window of five lights with a three-light chamfered window above it. All windows have altered glazing and some lack certain mullions. The right-hand return wall has a two-light double chamfered mullioned window next to an extruded stack with offsets. Additionally, there is a late 19th-century cottage attached to the left-hand end, which is excluded from this listing.
