Description

Nos 1 and 3 Millgate, also known as Millgate Antiques and Curio Cottage, are three cottages that have been converted into shops. They date from the mid to late 18th century and are constructed of partly rendered rubble that has been whitewashed, topped with stone slate roofs. The building is two storeys high and has an L-shaped layout.

The elevation facing the road features two doorways with monolithic jambs, with a canted bow window in between. Above this is a former three-light window. To the right, there is a window with plain stone surrounds and gudgeons for shutters, along with a three-light flat-faced mullioned window above that has recessed mullions. The right gable is coped and has a brick stack.

On the right-hand return, there is a single-cell cottage attached to the rear, which includes a doorway with tie-stone jambs to the left of a three-light window, with a similar window above. There is a truncated gable stack to the right.

Inside, the cottages feature stop-chamfered spine beams.
