Description
This building, originally the Grammar School and Master’s House, now comprises four dwellings. It dates to the late 18th century, with an early 19th-century extension. The original structure is built of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar quoins, and has a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high, with five bays to the left. The central bay is wider and projects, topped with a pedimented gable. There’s a doorway in the second bay, leading up six stone steps to a wooden doorcase with overlight and cornice. Sashed windows with slightly projecting surrounds are located in bays one, two, four, and five. The central bay features a tripartite sash window on each floor, with a fire-mark positioned under a projecting eaves band. The left side of the roof is hipped and there are two ashlar ridge stacks to either side of bays four and five. An 18th/19th-century addition to the right has three ground-floor and two first-floor sashed windows, and a truncated gable stack on the right.
