Description

The ice house, located approximately 10 meters north-east of Faweather Farmhouse, is a structure that possibly dates back to the 17th century. The entrance front is marked with the initials and date "J. D. 1778," referring to John Denby, the property's owner at that time. The ice house is carved out of solid bedrock, featuring a hammer-dressed stone-walled entrance. It is partly sunk underground and accessed via a flight of nine stone steps leading to the entrance doorway, which has monolithic jambs. Above the entrance, there is a coped wall with a datestone set below the coping, and the roof is made of rubble, creating a rock garden.

Inside, the ice house has a single barrel vault with two recesses on the left side and a shaft cut at an angle in the roof above.
