Description
The ice house at Marchmont House, dated around 1828, is a semi-subterranean structure built from coursed red sandstone ashlar. It features a barrel-vaulted passage that leads to a boarded timber door, which opens into a sealed chamber beyond. The northeast elevation has a round-arched entrance framed by ashlar voussoirs, although the gate is missing. To the right of the entrance are crowsteps, while the left side is missing them. Above the entrance, there is a dated panel set within a segmental-arched pediment. The front of the ice house is marked by a low stepped wall.
