Description
The ice-house, located to the north-west of Home Farm at Burn Hall, dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with a brick inner dome, and its roof is obscured by plants. The structure is built on a steep riverbank and features a 4-metre-long passage that leads to a round ice-house. The long north wall extends below the entrance level to accommodate the change in ground level. Inside, there are stone jambs halfway along the passage and brick jambs at the mouth of the well, which has a domed brick lining. The well is filled to about half a metre below the passage level.
