Description

The gateway and railings to the east of Burn Hall date from the early 19th century. They consist of rendered sandstone piers with painted ashlar dressings, cast iron gates and railings, and sandstone walls featuring ashlar dressings.

There are four square piers with plinths, coved pyramidal copings, and later slender urn finials, which create entrances for both vehicles and pedestrians. The gates have sloping tops, with the tallest part at the central piers. The upper railings rest on scrolled panels, while the lower sections feature overlapping hoops.

The snecked sandstone flanking walls support railings that include scroll panels and spear heads. The low serpentine outer flanking walls, which have chamfered coping, also support railings similar to those on the gates. The terminals consist of four principal elements grouped to form a square, topped with palmette finials.
