Description
The entrance gateway, railings, and boundary walling to Renishaw Hall date from the mid-19th century. The structure features stone gatepiers, ornamental iron gates, and stone boundary walls. The gatepiers are made of ashlar and are rusticated, square in plan, and approximately 2.5 meters high. They rise from a shallow plinth and have a moulded cornice that supports a steep pyramidal cap on a squared base. The piers are widely spaced to accommodate two pairs of openwork piers made of cast and wrought iron, which serve as gatepiers for the flanking cast iron pedestrian gables that support lampiron overthrows. The central carriage gates have gothic pointed arches with decorative arcading. The serpentine masonry walls flanking the gatepiers are on sloping ground, ranging from 0.5 to 1 meter high, and feature an ashlar saddleback coping. These walls support decorative cast iron railings and four openwork piers with lampirons above.
