Description
Coldwell Cottage is a house located in the parish of Eckington, dating from the early 19th century, with additions made in the mid-19th century. The original section is built from regularly coursed squared coal measures sandstone, while the later addition is constructed from red brick featuring diagonal ashlars and plain brick stacks, all beneath a hipped thatch roof.
The cottage has two storeys and three bays, with a prominent two-storey central porch supported by four rustic timber pillars. The porch roof is also hipped and thatched. The central doorway has a plain surround and features a gothic arched glazed overlight with leaded lights and V glazing bars. On the ground floor, the flanking windows are 3-light sashes with gothic pointed heads, each below hoodmoulds with stops. The first floor windows are smaller 3-light casements, with the window above the porch being a 4-light design, and all first-floor windows have hoodmoulds with stops. At the rear, there is a brick extension with plain glazing bar sashes.
