Description
The Green is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, built in the late 18th century with additions and remodelling from the late 19th century. It is constructed from coursed coal measures sandstone with ashlar dressings, featuring quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, ashlar gable stacks, and stone slated roofs. The main range has a long added range at the rear.
The east elevation is two storeys high and has five bays, presenting a symmetrical front with a central doorway flanked by 2-light flush mullioned windows that have leaded lights with rectangular panes in iron casement frames. The doorway features flush jambs and a massive lintel, topped by a 20th-century plank door with a glazed light at the top. There is a broad bandcourse above the ground floor window heads, and a similar band links the heads of the first-floor windows. The eaves cornice is simple in design. The rear range has irregular fenestration, with windows similar to those on the east elevation but varying from 1 to 4 lights. The roof has a hipped end and three brick stacks.
