Description

A mid-18th century house and shop, altered in the 19th century, stands on Church Street in Eckington. The building is constructed of coursed coal measures sandstone, with the east bay featuring red brick. The roof is covered in stone slates and clay pantiles, with coped gables, moulded kneelers, and a gable brick stack. The structure is two storeys and initially two bays, with a later lower brick extension to the northwest and a single-bay lower extension to the southeast. The southeast extension has a 19th-century shop front and panelled door. The original windows are 2-light flush mullioned, set within flush stone surrounds; the brick section's windows have moulded surrounds. Later casement windows are also present, along with an inserted small panel single-light window to the stone bay. A 20th-century door occupies the central doorway, but the brick bay retains an earlier four-bay panelled door.
