Description
Rectory Cottage is a house dating from the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared coal measures sandstone and features advanced quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, and ridge and gable brick stacks, one of which has a moulded stone cornice. The roof is covered with Welsh slate. The building has an 'L' plan layout, with a two-storey offshut located within the angle of the two ranges.
On the north elevation, the house has two storeys and two bays. The gable on the west side has stacked glazing bar sash windows set within flush stone frames. The first-floor windows feature semi-circular arched heads with imposts and a projecting keyblock, along with radiating glazing bars in the curved head of the upper sash. The lean-to offshut, set back to the east, has two glazing bar sash windows: one with three panes by three panes on the ground floor and another with two panes by three panes on the upper floor, both beneath plain stone lintels. The ground floor window has a channelled wedge lintel. The rear elevation includes a first-floor Diocletian window, while the east elevation has been rebuilt in brick.
