Description

The farmhouse dates from the late 17th century, with alterations and extensions in the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with quoins, and has a stone slate roof. The building originally comprised two units arranged around a central lobby entrance, with a later parallel addition to the rear creating a double-depth plan. The two-storey facade is symmetrical, featuring a single-storey gabled porch in the centre with a Tudor-arched outer doorway. The original entrance is indicated by vertical joints in the masonry to the right. There are two windows on each floor, each with two square lights, plain raised surrounds, and central flat-faced mullions, now with altered 9-pane top-hung casements. A blocked narrow window with a similar surround is located above the porch, in the centre of the first floor. The roof has two spans and a chimney stack on the ridge of the front elevation, with stone gable coping. A doorway and a window are visible on the left return wall, associated with the later rear addition.

Inside, there are back-to-back fireplaces. The fireplace in the right-hand room has a chamfered opening approximately 2.5 metres wide and 1.5 metres high, with a massive rectangular lintel, and a former bread oven between the left jamb and front wall. The left-hand room's fireplace is smaller but of a similar design, with a former salt cupboard to the left of it (the door is missing). The right-hand room contains a large chamfered beam forked at its outer end, along with chamfered joists with run-out stops.
