Description
The farmhouse, now a house, probably dates to the late 16th or early 17th century, with alterations in the 18th or 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone, with larger, less regular stonework on the ground floor, featuring large quoins. The upper portion of the right-hand gable is rendered and scored, and the roof is slate-covered, with a brick chimney at the left-hand gable.
The building has a double-depth, two-bay plan, incorporating a continuous rear outshut. Originally two storeys (potentially raised from a single storey), the facade is symmetrical. Centrally, a 4-centred arched doorway is set within a massive stone surround, with the chamfers stopped at the base of the jambs, featuring distinctive jewelled stops reminiscent of those found at Heskin Hall. Above the doorway is a worn datestone with raised decoration and lettering, which is now illegible. There are two 19th-century windows on each floor.
The right return wall features a deeply recessed four-light mullioned window, now blocked, with a hoodmould. The left gable wall and the rear elevation are comparatively unremarkable, except for a chimney stack rising from the rear wall of the second bay, now partially obscured by later additions.
Internally, the farmhouse has been remodelled, but the second bay retains two stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, set laterally. Historical information is unavailable, although it may have originally possessed a timber-framed upper storey.
