Description
The Church of St James is a church built in 1857 by E.G. Paley. It is constructed from snecked sandstone rubble and features a slate roof. The building includes a nave, a south aisle with a porch, and a lower chancel. The west wall has a wheel window and a gabled bellcote. The north wall of the nave consists of four bays, each with paired lancet windows separated by buttresses. The south aisle has three bays to the east of the porch, which also have similar windows. The outer porch doorway is chamfered in two orders. The chancel has two lancet windows on the south side and triple stepped lancets at the east end. Inside, there is a four-bay arcade of pointed arches, chamfered in two orders, supported by alternate round and octagonal piers, and an open timber roof.
