Description

Ash House Farmhouse is a house dating to the late 17th century, with alterations made in the mid 18th century, located on Sconce Lane, Bingley, near Baildon. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The house has two storeys and originally comprised three rooms. It features quoins. The first two bays have three-light, flat-faced mullioned windows, incorporating slightly recessed mullions with a wider central light, and retain their original four-paned sashes. A mid-20th century, gabled wood porch covers the doorway. The third bay has chamfered mullioned windows; these are of two lights to the ground floor, and three lights above. A single chimney stack rises from the ridge at the division of the first two bays. At the rear, a small window with a shouldered-arched lintel illuminates the cellar staircase, which is itself lit by another window partly sunk into the ground. The interior includes an unusual cellar with a barrel vault cut directly from the bedrock, and a stone staircase leading to the first floor, set below a similar staircase.
