Description

Nos 1 and 2 Cottages at Mould Greave are two cottages that were originally outbuildings, dating from the mid-18th century, with the right-hand portion added in the late 18th century. The cottages are constructed from coursed millstone grit, with some parts watershot, and feature a stone slate roof.

The building has two storeys and five first-floor windows in total. The left-hand portion includes a blocked doorway with a chamfered surround and keystone, alongside a two-light flat-faced mullion window. To the left of this doorway is a later doorway with a plain stone surround and tie-stone jambs, with another two-light flat-faced mullion window to its left. There is also a doorway with tie-stone jambs at the far left. On the first floor, there are a three-light window and two five-light windows, all featuring flat-faced mullions with narrower lights than those below.

The right-hand portion is made of watershot stone and has a plain stone surround doorway with a tie-stone on the right jamb. On the first floor, there are two two-light windows, one of which has had its mullion removed. The right gable features a shaped kneeler and ashlar coping, with ridge stacks, one of which is corniced.

At the rear, there is a variety of flat-faced mullion windows, along with some inserted 20th-century doors and windows. The right return has a blocked doorway with tie-stone jambs, now converted into a window, beneath a datestone inscribed 'R.W.M 1785'.

An outbuilding added to the south of the farm is not included in this listing.
