Description
Dunkirk Mill and attached mill house are a late 18th- to early 19th-century corn and spinning mill with a 2nd-quarter 19th-century chimney, and a mid-19th-century mill house. The mill is constructed of dressed millstone grit with stone slate roofs. The mill itself is two storeys and an attic, with eight bays, featuring 12-paned windows with stone lintels. A door is located to the right, set beneath an oblong fanlight with glazing bars and a stone lintel; cill bands are present on both the ground and first floors. The mill has plain gutter brackets and ashlar coping, with skylights visible. A stack is located to the right end. A short, square chimney is situated in front of bay 2, embedded within a single-storey, flat-roofed engine house that projects from the left gable and encompasses bays 1-3. The attached mill house is two storeys and three bays, with flat-faced mullion windows incorporating stone lintels and projecting cills. A central glazed door is flanked by two-light windows, with a single-light window above the door, also flanked by two-light windows. The mill was originally powered by water and used for corn and spinning. The house has a shaped kneeler, ashlar coping and a stack to its right end.
