Description

The former Hawksbridge Baptist Church and Sunday School is a disused building from the early to mid-19th century, consisting of two sections. It is constructed of coursed squared watershot stone with a stone slate roof and is a single storey with two to five bays.

The front features a straight joint between the two left-hand bays and the remaining bays. There is a plinth with a low opening and a board doorway in a plain stone surround located in the center of the first two bays. Above this, there are round-arched windows with plain stone surrounds, bipartite heads, impost stones, and projecting cills. The windows have glazing bars, and the middle sections open as casements. The window in the first bay has been heightened to serve as a taking-in door, with a hoist fixing above it. The building has inturned kneelers, ashlar coping, tabled gable stacks, and a cowl over the ridge vent.

On the left gable, there are steps leading up to two paved doorways with plain stone surrounds; the right doorway is blocked and has a window, while the left has a board door. The right gable features an inserted doorway above ground level with a hoist in the gable above. At the rear, there are inserted sliding doors on the left, with three windows to their right that have glazing bars in plain stone surrounds. The two right bays contain taller windows with stone lintels and cills. On the wall of the current Baptist Church, there is an inscription that reads, "Baptist Sabbath Sunday School built by voluntary subscription 1832."
