Description
Rode Baptist Church is a Baptist church dated 1780, constructed of random rubble with dressed quoins and a coped gable at the front. It features a continuous moulded cornice along the base of the gable and a slate roof. The plain two-storey facade has three bays, with Gothicised sash windows that have glazing bars in semi-circular headed bead-moulded stone surrounds. The central door opening is framed by a similarly moulded stone surround and has a paired three-panelled door topped with a moulded slab hood supported by cut stone brackets. At the rear, there is a single-storey, two-bay assembly room with paired 12-pane sash windows. Inside, the church has a galleried interior with a panelled and glazed entrance lobby, and the gallery is supported by slightly bellied turned wooden columns. The interior also contains late 19th-century pews and a pulpit. The forecourt features paired ashlar gate piers with plain pyramidal cappings, and a coursed rubble wall that extends 7 metres to the north and 25 metres to the south, incorporating a secondary pair of ashlar gate piers that provide access to the graveyard. The main entrance is marked by paired railed gates.
