Description

This is a 19th-century milepost located opposite Warren House Cottages on Wentworth Road in Rawmarsh. Made by Brayshaw and Booth from Liversedge, it is constructed from cast iron and fixed onto a sandstone pillar. The milepost features angled sides and a sloping top plate beneath a round-headed panel. The raised lettering on the upper panel indicates the directions to Brampton Bierlow and Hooton Roberts Road in Rawmarsh. The left side shows distances to Barnsley (10¾ miles) and Wentworth (3 miles), while the right side lists distances to Doncaster (11 miles), Conisborough (6 miles), and Hooton Roberts (3¾ miles).
