Description
This milepost, dating from the 19th century, is located approximately 100 meters northwest of the junction with Highthorn Road in Swinton. It was made by Brayshaw and Booth of Liversedge. The milepost is constructed from cast iron and is fixed onto a sandstone pillar. It features angled sides and a sloping top plate beneath a round-headed panel. The raised lettering on the upper panel indicates the directions to Brampton Bierlow and Hooton Roberts Road in Swinton. The left side displays distances to Barnsley (12¾ miles) and Wentworth (5 miles), while the right side shows distances to Doncaster (9 miles), Conisborough (4 miles), and Hooton Roberts (1¾ miles).
