Description
The remains of the Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene date back to around 1200 and were demolished in 1815. They are now incorporated into the churchyard wall, located immediately north of the Church of St. Margaret. The structure is built from ashlar sandstone with some limestone details, although it is badly eroded. The surviving elements include the jambs of the chancel arch and the south doorway, which extend to the impost level and are set within an L-shaped section of wall. The chancel arch features a quoined opening with each jamb displaying two orders of projecting half-round mouldings on either side, along with badly-weathered capitals. The south doorway is a fragmentary remnant that includes two orders of colonnettes flanking a moulded rib, with traces of zig-zag carving visible on the weathered capitals.
