Description
No. 15 Fitzwilliam Street is a house and shop dating from the mid to late 18th century, with some alterations from the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed, squared sandstone and has a Welsh slate roof. The building has two storeys and features a three-window front, with a lower, parallel range at the rear.
The front is characterized by large herringbone-tooled quoins. To the left of the center, there is a panelled door set in a painted ashlar surround, and to the left of this is an inserted 19th-century shop window. To the right of the doorway, there is a crudely inserted casement window with glazing bars, and next to it is a 16-pane sash window that has a projecting sill and a plain lintel.
On the first floor, there is a central blind window with a square-faced surround, flanked by casement windows with glazing bars, which are set in similar surrounds, although their sills have been cut away. The building features eroded kneelers and square-cut gable copings, along with renewed brick stacks at the ends. This property is included for its group value.
