Description
Hawthorne Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 'SSW / 1774' above the door on the left side. It is constructed from squared, coursed sandstone and has a 20th-century tile roof. The building has two storeys with a partial attic and features three first-floor windows, with a wing extending to the rear left. The farmhouse has large, projecting ashlar quoins. The central entrance consists of a panelled door with an overlight that includes glazing bars, all set within a stone architrave featuring a tripartite keystone. The flanking windows have tall square-faced surrounds that accommodate 20th-century casements with glazing bars. There is a band at the first floor, and the first-floor windows mirror those on the ground floor, with a moulded sill on the central window. A moulded stone cornice is present, along with brick-built kneelers and gable copings. The end stacks are renewed brick.
Inside, there is a contemporary turned-baluster staircase with a matching stair-gate leading to the attic, as well as a stone staircase in the rear wing. There are 20th-century brick additions to the rear that are not of special interest.
