Description
This is a 19th-century milepost located approximately 45 metres south-west of the junction with Abdy Lane in Swinton. Made by Brayshaw and Booth from Liversedge, it is constructed from cast iron and fixed onto a sandstone pillar. The milepost features angled sides and a sloping top plate beneath a round-headed panel. The raised lettering on the upper panel indicates the destinations of Brampton Bierlow, Hooton Roberts Road, and Swinton Branch, along with Swinton itself. The left side lists distances to Doncaster (11 miles), Conisbrough (5½ miles), Mexborough (2¾ miles), and Swinton (1¼ miles). The right side provides distances to Barnsley (11¼ miles) and Wentworth (3½ miles).
