Description
This is a milepost located approximately 70 metres west of the junction with Denaby Lane in Conisbrough, dating from the late 19th century. It was made by Brayshaw and Booth of Liversedge. The milepost is constructed from cast iron and is fixed on a stone pillar. It features angled sides and a sloping top-plate beneath a round-headed panel. The raised lettering on the upper panel indicates the destinations: "BRAMPTON BIERLOW & HOOTON/ROBERTS ROAD/SWINTON BRANCH/ DENABY." The left side shows the distances to Doncaster (7 miles) and Conisborough (1¼ miles), while the right side lists Barnsley (15¼ miles), Wentworth (7½ miles), Swinton (2¾ miles), and Mexborough (1¼ miles). This milepost is part of a series, many of which still exist in the Rotherham district.
