Description

18 Church Street is an early to mid-18th century house, now a restaurant, situated in Conisbrough. Built of deeply-coursed magnesian limestone, the house has stone slate eaves courses to its pantile roof. It is two storeys high with cellars and attics, and originally had five bays. A lean-to addition was later constructed to the left return and rear. The corners are emphasised with rusticated ashlar. A doorway, added in the later 18th century, is positioned to the left of centre, featuring a part-glazed eight-panel door within an architrave. The frieze above the architrave depicts urns and swags beneath a cornice. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set within cemented square-headed surrounds, and the window above the door has eight panes. Shaped kneelers and gable copings are present, and the end stacks are rebuilt in brick.

Inside, an ashlar fireplace is located on the ground floor to the left, featuring a cambered arch with a keystone. The original staircase has square newels with turned finials and a handrail, but lacks balustrades. The attic reveals exposed collared principal-rafter trusses.
