Description
The mausoleum on the east side of Newhill Park was built in 1834 for John Payne of Newhill Hall. It is a small, square, single-storey structure made of coursed, dressed sandstone with an ashlar sandstone roof. The building features identical facades, a plinth, and chamfered quoins. There are central, round-arched recesses with quoined edges and sunken apron panels beneath wall stone infill. A cornice runs along the top, and it has a stepped pyramidal roof, although the finial has been removed. The south side lacks an apron panel, likely indicating a former entrance. Surrounding the mausoleum is a low-walled enclosure, which is now in poor condition, and the original cast-iron railings have been removed.
