Description
This is a 19th-century milepost located approximately 100 meters west of the junction with Carr Lane in Hooton Roberts. Made by Brayshaw and Booth from Liversedge, it is constructed from cast iron and fixed onto a sandstone pillar. The milepost features angled sides and a sloping top plate beneath a round-headed panel. The raised lettering on the upper panel indicates "BRAMPTON BIERLOW & HOOTON/ROBERTS ROAD/HOOTON/ROBERTS." The left side lists distances to Doncaster (8 miles), Conisborough (3 miles), and Hooton Roberts (¾ mile), while the right side shows distances to Barnsley (13¾ miles) and Wentworth (6 miles).
