Description

Hooton Roberts Rectory is a rectory built in the early to mid-18th century, with 19th-century additions and alterations, and it incorporates some earlier masonry. The building is constructed of coursed, squared sandstone and features a 20th-century pantile roof with renewed brick stacks. It has an irregular plan, with the 18th-century section consisting of two storeys and an attic, featuring three windows and a short stair-wing at the center rear.

To the left, there is an early 19th-century two-storey cross-wing that has had additions made to the rear and at the angle with the 18th-century range. The entrance front has large quoins on the right side, with a panelled central door set in a swept-shouldered architrave that has projecting voussoirs leading to a keyed flat arch. There is an open-sided porch with a tiled roof. To the left of the entrance, a window features a projecting sill, a sash with glazing bars, and a projecting keystone above a flat arch. Similar windows are located on the first floor to the left and center. An added two-storey bay to the right has margin-light sashes and a hipped roof. The gable copings are made of ashlar, and there are end stacks.

The wing set forward to the left has a tripartite sash with glazing bars on each floor, square-faced mullions, and three-piece lintels designed to resemble voussoirs with keystones. This wing has a hipped roof with a stack at the eaves on the left side. The rear stair wing of the 18th-century section features a Venetian window without mullions.

Inside, the left ground-floor room has 18th-century panelling and a fireplace surround, while the staircase is adorned with slender balusters.
