Description
This is a barn dating from the early to mid-18th century, located on the east side of the farmyard at Firsby Hall, fronting onto a bridle path. The barn is constructed of coursed squared sandstone and features stone slate eaves courses beneath a pantile roof. It stands two storeys high and has six bays, with large quoins at the corners. To the left of the center, there is a waggon entrance with heavy-hung boarded doors, which are set beneath a wooden lintel and a relieving arch. On the right side, there are bricked-up slit vents and an inserted casement window. The barn includes four loading hatches that have bonded ashlar surrounds, as well as shaped kneelers and chamfered gable copings. At the rear, there is a lower, opposed entrance. Inside, the barn features a stone-paved threshing floor and massive principal-rafter trusses with collars and some straight wind braces supporting double purlins. Attached farm buildings are noted but are not of special interest.
