Description

RAVENFIELD MAIN STREET SK49NE (east side) 1/82 Nos 3 and 5 GV II House now 2 dwellings. Probably C16 core, encased and extended late C17. Some internal timber framing, coursed rubble sandstone, stone slate and pantile roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays with partial front and rear outshuts flanking roadside gable end. Original front facing south: large quoins. Blocked, quoined doorway to far right with straight joint in masonry on left flanked by remains of double-chamfered formerly mullioned windows on each floor; C20 door and window into outshut on left; brick ridge stack, pantile roof with lower ridge on right. Rear: chamfered, quoined doorway to No 5 on right. Left return (facing roadside): a C20 three-light casement with glazing bars, shutters, projecting stone sill and old dripstone to each floor; a 2-light casement on right in double-chamfered surround; added brick stack rises from left slope of roof which retains some gable copings. Right return: blocked 2-light double-chamfered gable window with projecting sill and dripstone. Interior: framing of central truss and wall posts exposed in No 5; principal- rafter roof trusses.
